Quiet Electric Generators

When the power goes out, it is always handy to have a backup source of electricity. However, the unfortunate down-side to these generators, is that they are run by a motor, which is annoyingly loud. Until now, that is.

With the exploration and application of inverter technology, companies like Honda are able to produce ultra quiet electric generators. Instead of having normal gas-electric technology, the inverter employs a microprocessor that controls engine speed, as well as refines the electricity put off by the motor, creating a higher, more reliable output.

The inverter technology is well represented in Honda's EU6500iSA model. As the name implies, this model puts out an impressive 6500 watts at the normal 120/240V. Due to the use of the inverter, which controls the engine speed, this model is able to run for almost 14 hours on about 4 and a half gallons of gas. Without the inverter application, none of these capabilities would be possible in a quiet electric generator.

Onan also achieves in their micro quiet generator, decreased sound levels, with the aid of microprocessors and digital regulator technology. These are available in both 3600 and 4000 watt models. While microprocessors go a long way into lowering the noise level of these generators, the use of superior mufflers also aids in sound dampening.

Yamaha created one of the quietest generators in any class with the EF2800i. Also using inverter technology, Yamaha adds a feature called Economy Control, which lowers RPM if the power demand is lower than the inverter regulated output, allowing the user to get even better fuel economy, and the same refined output. The EF2800i is uncommonly lightweight for its' power output as well, weighing under 70 pounds.

With the use of inverter technology, electrical generators have become more quiet than ever. Previous models of generators would not support powering of computers, since the output power had an erratic wavelength. Such an irregularity could possible destroy some sensitive electronic equipment. Thankfully, with the use of inverters, this problematic issue has been resolved, making the super quiet electrical generators more useful than ever.
